We are a European Research Council (ERC)-supported Microbiology lab working in the School of Natural Sciences at the National University of Ireland Galway.
We are also closely affiliated with the School of Engineering at The University of Glasgow.
Our main activities are in these areas:
The application of our research is in innovating to optimise biotechnologies and to develop new ones, including for international development.
An ’EcoSystems Biology‘ approach is required to understand the thermodynamics, ecology and ecophysiology of complex microbial communities.
We work closely with our colleagues in NUI Galway, the University of Glasgow and elsewhere, to apply the culture microbiology, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and mathematical & ecological modelling required.
Our core work is part of a European Research Council-funded project, but we are also working on projects funded by the Irish Research Council, Enterprise Ireland, Science Foundation Ireland and the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
