Welcome to the Collins Lab

We are a European Research Council ( )-supported research lab working in the School of Natural Sciences at the .

We are also closely affiliated with the School of Engineering at The University of Glasgow, where we are supported by the EPSRC to lead the Transforming Waste Project .

Please follow our blog , and learn more about our interests and activities, which are in these areas:

The application of our research is in innovating to optimise biotechnologies and to develop new ones, including for international development.

An ‘ EcoSystems Biology ‘ approach is required to understand the thermodynamics, ecology and ecophysiology of complex microbial communities.

We work closely with our colleagues in NUI Galway , the University of Glasgow and elsewhere, to apply the culture microbiology, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and mathematical & ecological modelling required.

Our core work is part of a European Research Council -funded project, but we are also working on projects by the Irish Research Council, Enterprise Ireland, Science Foundation Ireland and the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
